As a result of the generous support of members, guests and friends of the Club, we managed to raise the magnificent sum of £2,477 for SANDS during the 2025 season, which they acknowledged today with these kind remarks. Thank you so much, to all who contributed."It is because of generous supporters, like you, for the past 45 years we have been able to support bereaved parents and families across the UK. and Sands will continue to be there for anyone experiencing pregnancy or baby loss, so they receive the best care and support. Sands also support and fund pioneering research, listening to bereaved families and healthcare professionals to understand why babies die. Finding answers and improving maternity safety is crucial to making sure every family has the best opportunity to see their baby grow up. Your gift will make a lifesaving difference, and we are so grateful. With your support, Sands can save more babies’ lives and ensure every parent, family member and healthcare professional has somewhere to turn. Billy Chambers 1947 – 2025It was with the greatest sadness we learned that Past-President Billy Chambers had passed away early yesterday, at home, following a protracted period of ill health.Applying for membership of the Club in August 1983, due to the waiting lists of those days, he would not become a member until March 1988. It was surely a reflection of his immediate love for the Club that he was approached and asked to consider election to the Directorship in late 1989. Elected to the Board in 1990 for a three year period, he initially joining the Social and Fund Raising Committee, under Alex Sutherland’s convenorship and was heavily involved in the Winter programme of events for 1991/92. The most sociable of individuals, with infectious enthusiasm, he was clearly well-suited to this role.Billy was re-elected to the Board again in 2000, once more sitting on the Social and Fundraising Committee, and during this term of office was asked by Tom Dow to be his Vice-President, leading on to his proud year as President in 2002After retiring from the Board after 2003, he was re-elected once more, in 2005, again serving on the Social Committee, for a 3 year period. He was heavily involved in arranging the Saturday evening games and kept a social match ongoing for many years with bowling friends at St. Rollox B.C., as well as being a regular attendee at annual competitions at Stepps and Auchinairn clubs and the winter social games at Chryston.Alongside all this fantastic service to the Club, and involvement in the local bowling community, Billy was no slouch as a bowler, as his record below clearly shows, and anyone who ever played alongside or against him will pay testament to his intensely competitive and encouraging nature. He started winning trophies in his first year as a member and was still collecting silverware as recently as 2021, and even despite knowing 2025 would be his last season on the green, such were his battling qualities that he managed to reach two club semi-finals.Without question, his proudest achievement at the Club was in winning the Club Championship in 1994. He was delighted that he had arranged to have his victory over Alex Montgomery recorded on video, notwithstanding that his refusal to don his waterproofs, for fear of ruining his game, left him soaked to the skin!Known to us all as “Wee Billy”, what he lacked in stature, he more than made up for in character, sense of fun and enthusiasm for life, which he lived to the full. He liked nothing better than his time on holiday with wife Mary, spending time at the Club in the company of friends, following his football team and having a wee flutter on the horses. The Club has lost one of its biggest characters and he will be sorely missed. Our sympathies are very much with Mary, the wider family and his many friends at this sad time.Funeral details will be shared once known.Club Champion – 1994President’s Prize Winner – 2004 and 2008Burmese Bowl (Handicap) Winner - 1990Nomination Pairs Winner - 1990 with Dick SandsClub Pairs Winner - 2009 with Allan McKechnieSenior Pairs Winner - 2021 with Bobby McEwanTriples Winner - 2009 with Jack Deacon and Jim Broadfoot - 2010 with Robert Pullin and Jim BroadfootFours Winner - 2012 with David Wood, Alex Wiseman and John Cunningham Jnr.K&D Fours Winner - 1993 with Craig Scobie, George R. A wee throwback to the recent 2025 Championship final and a sample of the excellent display of bowls from Jack Deacon and Drew Cunningham. There were about 6 touchers in this end! A great last bowl from Drew to turn Jack's bowl to lie two and then Jack well played with his last but unfortunate to turn Drew in for a third.A tremendous final that will last long in the memory.MTL ...
