Mixed fortunes for the Lenzie finalists in the Kirkintilloch & District knockout competitions today at Abronhill.![]()
The Senior Fours of Willie Milne, Stewart Gunning, Colin Murray and Jim Caskie, along with their Abronhill opponents, had a struggle on a problematic rink 6, however still managed to turn the game into a good contest, with Lenzie coming back strongly at the end of the game, but losing out 13-15. Congratulations to the Abronhill Senior Fours.![]()
In the Champion of Champions Gavin Ansari was the first to admit that he took longer to settle into his match than his opponent Abronhill's Steven Martin. Stevie also demonstrated more consistency in what became a good contest. In the end, the Abronhill man was the deserved winner by 21-13.![]()
The Triples final was a real nip and tuck affair, with both teams playing some great bowls. At 11 ends played, the score was 9 apiece, when the Westermains trio of Jim Byron, Scott Wilson and Andrew Byron took a 3 to take a 9-12 lead. The reply from Lenzie's Eric Corson, Colin Dow and Calum Kidd was equal and immediate - peels at 12 after 13 played. This score was repeated in the 14th for Lenzie to take a 15-12 lead into the last end. ![]()
Some great lead bowls from Eric Corson gave Lenzie the advantage in the last and whilst Scott Wilson sprung the jack wide, a Lenzie bowl was closest and the challenge was too great for Westermains to either draw to the jack or move it to recover the deficit. A great contest with the plaudits to Lenzie and commiserations to Westermains.![]()
The Singles saw Ian McLelland face David Greenwood from Greenfaulds. Ian took the early initiative, building a 6-0 advantage after 4 or 5 ends, but this was recovered over the next few ends to see David take a 6-7 lead.![]()
A great tussle saw Ian gradually take a healthy lead at 15-10, but never convincingly comfortable, and before long David was back in the game, drawing level at 16-16. Two ends later and with game against, a wonder draw by David won the end, and by the next it was 18 apiece. Three ends later and with three singles scored, the game was over, with Ian McLelland winning the title for the third time. A great match![]()
Ian now hold a remarkable record of three wins of BOTH the K&D Singles and Senior Singles titles, winning the former in 1997, 2010 and now 2025, and the latter in 2018, 2019 and 2021.![]()

Seasoned campaigner, Ian McLelland bids for a third Singles title, having previously won in 1997 and 2010. It would be a remarkable achievement if he were able to add to the three K&D Senior Singles titles held. Ian will face Greenfaulds' David Greenwood in what promises to be a tremendous match.![]()
In the Triples, Eric Corson, Colin Dow and Calum Kidd, face the Westermains trio of Andrew Byron, Jim Byron and Scott Wilson, where both Colin Dow and Jim Byron will both be looking for some consolation of recent losses at Northfield, in what should be another great contest. National Finals Day 5 - 30th July 2025![]()
It was a frustrating day for our Gents Fours in their early morning start against Deantown bowling club today.![]()
Despite playing well and dominating the heads in the early part of the game, the Deantown skip, Grant King played some telling bowls to ensure that Lenzie's lead was kept to a minimum. Indeed the skip's battle was the most telling part of the game, with both Grant and Lenzie President, Drew Cunningham playing some excellent bowls.![]()
At around 9 ends, and the score at 9-4 in Lenzie's favour, the Deantown lead came onto a better game and gradually, one shot at a time, Deantown clawed back the lead and by end 15 the score was 10 apiece. A loss of a single in the penultimate end meant Lenzie went into the last behind for the first time in the game.![]()
Despite having last bowl, the position of bowls made it extremely difficult to move or drew to beat the shots against and in the end, Lenzie lost out by 10-13.![]()
Congratulations to Deantown - a dogged battling performance to win on the day, and we wish them well in future rounds.![]()
